Sci Fi must haves

I am very interested in this course but I feel lacking in Sci-Fi knowdledge. I love Sci-Fi movies, TV shows, and novels, however, I think I need to have a brush-up on the "classics." I think a list of movies and books considered helpful in this course would be very beneficial to those of us that are not extremely comfortable with the Science Fiction aspect. The idea of a few movie nights has been brought up in class, however, if a posted recommended list were available it could be an individual effort or a group effort to become more knowledgable in the Science Fiction foundation.

I'm definitely open to organizing "movie nights" - I'm inclined to let students organize these yourselves rather than impose a selection of movies on you. But I'm happy to help provide popcorn if it will help!

Try this list. It has most of the classics and a few that I have not read.

Irwin Library may have a few of these. If it doesn't you can get them via our Interlibrary loan service. From within World Cat just click on the "find it" button to initiate our ILL service.

For Christmas I just got a 4 episode set of famous Star Trek The Next Generation episodes. They might be a good intro to Star Trek for people who haven't seen it. There is one episode in particular that would pertain to this class. I'd be happy to lend it to people individually or for a group of people to watch together.

I'm happy to help with booking classrooms for any get-togethers students may wish to plan. Let me know what, if anything, I can do to facilitate things like this!
